Record Breaking Snowfall

The sun is out and the record breaking snowfall is over! The final measurement at our house was 12 1/2 inches. The melt has started and icicles are all around. Beautiful! Lucas and his buds went snow boarding in Los Alamos this morning and called to say the roads were open and not too bad. I will be heading out as soon as I get my shit together. These lazy days at home are almost over so it is time to start moving again and get ready to get back to real life. Yuck.

Snowed In

I made a bad decision by waiting until Friday to go visit my family up north. We woke up to a light dusting yesterday and I was planning on leaving around noon but before I could get my shit together it snowed 4 inches and it was still coming down. I called to tell them I was chicken to drive while it was snowing and that I would leave today after it slowed down and started to melt. Well it snowed all day yesterday and this morning we woke to a foot of snow, this is the most snow I've seen here, probable ever. Lucas and his friends were planning on driving to Santa Fe this morning to go snow boarding but I-25 was closed from Bernalillo to the Colorado border, basically the freeways are closed leaving east and north from Albuquerque. Oh well, I hope I can drive up there later today or tomorrow, the sun seems a little brighter today so maybe it will show its face and warm up the roads and melt any ice. If not I'll try again Sunday, New Year's Eve and hopefully make it there before 2007.

Switching subjects, this week three significant people died, James Brown, Gerald Ford and Saddam Hussein. I was sad to hear about all three and even though Saddam was a horrible man, it was not something I was happy about and I said a prayer for all of them. I also said a prayer in remembrance my Father's mother, Mama Benita, she passed away on Deceber 27th when I was in 5th grade. I remember my Dad crying and how hard it was for me to see my Dad this sad. I saw my Dad at his weakest and it wasn't something I had seen before. I had always thought of Dad as strong and a little mean, that day I saw him as a son who loved his Mother.

Icicles on Ice

The snow melt is forming icicles all around and creating another beautiful sight. Luckily I took a few pictures before Jacob made his way outside for the great icicle harvest. He collected a few and plans on selling them on ebay. What the going price for icicles today?

Snow Desert Day 2

It has been snowing for two days in a row. That is a big deal here in the desert, usually when it snows it melts by the next day. Lucas and his snowboard (Christmas present from his dad) have left for a day of fun with his friends. He said they were going to a Academy High School and ride some ramps. I didn't to let him use the new snowboard pants and jacket I bought him because I thought he should wait until Christmas to open his gifts. Silly me.

Snow Desert

The wind blew all night long and this morning the storm had arrived. I went to the post office and to Target earlier and when I came out of Target it had started to snow. It has been snowing for a couple of hours now and the inches are accumulating. It is beautiful to watch and I plan on sitting here and enjoying the winter wonderland.
