Marty and Lucas last summer when they went to play in the Don Mattingly World Series in New Jersey. They leave tomorrow to Luna College to play and learn and live with eachother in Las Vegas (NM). I love my boys but sometimes I wish I had a little girl to hang out with and do the girly stuff. Leandra gave me a glimps of what it would be like when she was staying with us. I cried when she went home because I really enjoyed having her here but I was very happy she was able to go home to her mom. Her mom and her moved into another home but my son was not allowed there because her mom was still mad at Luc. I'm not sure why Luc and Leandra have been apart lately or why they seem to have broken up. Luc didn't talk to me about it, he just mumbled something about her mom.

After our fight Saturday, Lucas took off and stayed over night some where. I wanted to call him but decided to give him some space and time to cool off and think about what I told him about his attitude towards me and Jake. He came home Sunday morning and didn't say much and later took off again to spend the night some where because there was no school Monday. I asked him where he was going but he started with some smart ass remarks so I just dropped it and went to bed. Oh my, it is real hard to let them go without worrying so I prayed for him and for strengh. He didn't come home until late Monday, which was fine because I really didn't want him to come home and start a fight with Jacob while I wasn't there. Well he came home with a changed attitude and was quiet and calm, he didn't talk much but when he did it was respectful.

Yesterday morning he was polite when he spoke and him and Jacob went off to school together. Later in the day when Luc got home from school he called me at work asking how to turn off the water. I has been so fricken cold here that one of the caps on the water pipes outside had split and water was shooting up in the backyard like Old Faithful. I told him where to turn it off and that I would be home as soon as possible. When I got home and went out back there were icicles all around where the water had frozen because it didn't get above freezing yesterday. Lucas was acting normal again when I got home and said "I saved the house". I said, "Yes you did, thank you". He had taken off the split part which was very helpful and I took the part with me to the Home Depot to find a new one. I found a the right size pipe cap by comparing it to the old one, it only cost .67 cents so I bought two. .67 cents for something that could have cost muncho dinero if it had busted indoors. When I got back home Jacob and Larry had got home so I handed the new part to them and said, "Fix it". Men have to be good for something after all. Larry put it on and Jacob turned the water back on and all was better in the world.

Lucas went off to night school and I was making some chicken for dinner when Leandra called. She was crying and asked if we could talk, I said yes and wanted to know what was wrong. She was upset about her and Luc's breakup and had been trying to talk with him about getting back together but he won't answer her calls and wouldn't talk to her at school. I told her about my fight with him and suggested she give him some time and space but that she not change who she is. She also told me she had hurt herself snowboarding and might have to have surgery. She said she misses her best friend and didn't have anyone to talk to. I asked about her mom and she said they were getting along and that she had talked to her about letting Lucas come over. She said her mom said it was okay and that she told Luc but he didn't believe her. She said Luc had answered her call yesterday but told her he didn't love her anymore. I told her I didn't believe that and that I would try to talk to Luc if she wanted me to. I didn't get a chance to talk to him last night so I will try tonight. I don't expect him to get back with her if he doesn't want because as I told Leandra, Luc needs to get his own life in order and figure out what he wants. They are both so young and have so much ahead of them. It makes me sad to see them struggle with life. I hope I helped her feel better, I'm not exactly the best person to be giving out relationship advice but I told her she can call me any time and if she needs anything I will help if I can. I love my baby boys but I love that baby girl too.

Jacob's Got Spirit, How About You?

I usually put up the Christmas tree and decorations by myself with little help from my sons. This year I was trying to be Scrooge and do only the minimum decoration but today Jacob made me help him put up the Christmas Tree. I had put up the stockings, a wreath on the front door, and a little tree in the kitchen. I even used one of the fiber optic lights on the tree to give Rudolph a glowing nose but he said it wasn't good enough.

Yesterday he helped move the Soloflex out to the garage so we would have more space in the back room. Today he brought in the boxes of decorations and actually said, "Please help me put up the tree". It is really hard to say no when a teenage boy actually says 'please'. He set up the artificial tree and put the star on top, I put on the lights and we both put some ornaments. We didn't take out all the decorations but I must say I'm glad we put the tree up. It has lifted my spirit a little and it was really nice to have someone sharing the decorating duty.

Lucas, on the other hand, didn't come out of his room to help and hasn't even made a comment about it going up. He did go shopping with me yesterday to pick out his Christmas gifts. His presents must be his contribution to the holiday decorations.

It's My Spot

I logged onto my favorite knitting blog and there they were, "the knitting spots" us CAP fans sent in and I just had to grab a glass of wine and spend the next hour or so looking at everybody's spots. I was having a good time then Jake got home from football practice and started bugging me to get off the computer so he could use it. So I added a couple of pictures of more balloons and logged off. I went into the kitchen (my spot) which is where I usually watch TV and Luc and Leandra had come in and change the channel. Luc was acting like a jerk, he wouldn't give me the remote and was dogging this little space I created here and then he was trying to pick a fight with Jake. I was already upset with him because I'd received a letter from school and a call from the night school because he has unexcused absences. I just paid a deposit on the graduation announcements and for the ACT test so for him to not go to school really pissed me off. Anyway we both ended up mad and this morning he would answer me when I said goodbye. Whatever.

Tonight Jacob and the team travels to play in Gallup but I do not want to drive out there and back by myself. Luc (and Leandra) is going with his dad to the game and I will have the house to myself. I hope they drive safely and that they win.

The Balloon Fiesta started today and the Balloons launched from area elementary schools so they filled the skies. Unfortunately the weather forcast is gloomy and we may not see any tomorrow. There is wine tasting going on at the balloon park tomorrow and Sunday so perhaps I'll hit that.

49-7 was the final beating the varsity team gave the Knights. I thought it would be a blow-out and didn't go to the game. Luc called with updates during the game. After the game Luc and I filled out the form to order his Graduation announcements! Holy Shit I cannot believe my baby is gonna graduate this coming year. I know he is all grown physically but I'm not to sure about his mental maturity. Hell I'm not sure of my mental maturity. Anyway, all the invitations and other memorabilia he ordered is gonna cost some $. I know you only graduate once from high school but it bothers me the way these companies take advantage of the parents with the prices they charge.

Cake or Tortillas?

Jake celebrated his 16th birthday this weekend so I made him a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Last night he ate the last piece and asked me where I got the cake pan/storage container I use when I make a layer cake. A flood of memories came to me as I remembered my childhood and how we used that cake pan for tortilla storage. With 12 children in the family there was always a need for a large stack of tortillas and the cake pan worked perfectly as a tortilla storage container. We didn't eat much bread in our house. We would grab a chunk of tortilla and spread on some butter, mayonaise, or peanut butter and that was our snack. One day Mom decided that she didn't want to use aluminum anymore because she thinks it causes alzheimers. I was more than happy to take the cake pan and use it every birthday when I make a layer cake. I don't make stacks of tortillas so it gets used for cakes only. I thought of other kitchen tools we grew up with that held special memories like the cookie jar in the shape of an apple and the blue kool-aide pitcher. Little things like that make me smile and I thanked Jacob for helping me remember some nice memories. I found a picture on the web of a similar cake pan. I wonder what Mom paid for it, it is worth almost $40 bucks!

On another note. Good bye to Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter. Everybody really liked him and he will be missed. Crikey!

No more "hey boy"

Last week was hard for Jake. He had to sit out of practice for the last week. His transcript for the class he took over the summer was slow coming in and coach benched him. He had to hang out on the side line and wait for them to call for water, "hey boy", they called. He finally got the grade transferred over and he was able to practice yesterday. I hope he learned his lesson and keeps his grades up.

Last weekend I went to Med to celebrate with Lon and Dawn. They baptized Amanda and then we had a cook out and partied. I went with Veronica and Arianna. Lino and Pat and their families, John, and Lollie were there too. When we got to Med we had to stop at Selina's because the arroyo was running and we couldn't cross. It has been raining almost everyday for the last month so everything is green and beautiful.

Back to life

The Pirates won the consolation game Saturday, Luc went to see the Angels (and his favorite player Vladamir Guerrero) beat the Yankees on Sunday and came home Monday. Summer vacation is over and we are all back to the old routine of work, school and for Jake, football. Jake had to retake Algebra over the summer so he didn't get break. He needed to bring his grade up in order to play football. He brought it up to a C and hopefully that will be enough and that he has learned his lesson and doesn't let his grades slip again. Today was Luc's first day of school and tomorrow will be his first night of night school. My sons do not listen to me when I talk to them about their education and I reached a point where I had to let go of bitching about school. They are doing better with school but now are making up for their past laziness. I know it is going to be a tough year for Luc if he wants to graduate with his class but he can do it. I know he can and I am gonna help if he needs me.

Me, I applied for a promotion recently but did not get an interview. They announced one of the other guys at work was promoted so I don't think they will be handing out any more. I had to give a presentation to our group today. I would much rather sit in my cubical with my headphones on and work than give a presetation but we all have to do it, so I sign up right away and got it over with. My sons are complete opposites when it come to stuff like that, they will put it off until the last minute and it makes me crazy.
